Title I
The Elkin City School System has received a grant of federal funds to provide instructional activities and services to meet the educational needs of students achieving below their expected levels. The Title I program for Elkin City Schools has been written to provide readiness skills and remedial reading instruction to eligible students. We are a school-wide program and serve students throughout the school as needs arise. Our school serves students daily in a variety of ways to help them grow academically. Based on the mClass reading assessment and other criteria, students are selected throughout the year to receive additional assistance in reading. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, some students throughout the course of the year may be served through our STAR (Strategies to Accelerate Reading) Program. The emphasis of the instruction of this program will be on specific skills needed by your child to gain reading comprehension. Students receiving these specialized services will be taught by Darlene Love and Sherry Martin. Instruction will take place in a pull-out setting for younger students and co-teaching services in the regular reading classrooms for our older students needing additional assistance. This reading instruction is in addition to and in support of their typical reading instruction by their classroom teacher. It is our goal that all students at EES be provided opportunities and support to grow and be successful at school. Our Title I program is one of many ways we seek to promote literacy and growth within our students at Elkin Elementary School. Thank you for your support.
